世界遺産であるタンロン遺跡*の東側にある旧市街。長い間一大商業地区だったここには、かつて36の同業組合があった。その業種の名前を冠した通りが今も街を縦横に貫いている。歴史的保護地区に指定されているため区画整理がされておらず、往時のまま。景観は保全されているというより商売の必然に任せきりで、一帯はいつも熱気と喧騒に包まれている。
*（タンロンとは昇竜を意味し、ハノイの旧称でもある）

To the east of the Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long * lies the Old Quarter.

The Old Quarter was formerly a large commercial hub with 36 guilds, and

some of the streets in this area still bare the names of their former trades.

It was designated a special zone for the purpose of preserving historic buildings,

so the original layout is still largely intact.

However, rather than simply being preserved, it was left to the necessities of business,and the whole area is always alive with hustle and bustle.

*Thăng Long (literally “rising dragon”) is the old name for Hanoi.
